A 24-year old university student from North Melbourne, Melissa Yoon has been awarded the inaugural Adam Majcher Legacy Fellowship that trains and builds the capacities of a future climate leader.

The announcement was made at The Climate Reality Leadership Corps training hosted
by former US Vice President Al Gore in Brisbane on June 5-7.

The Adam Majcher Legacy Fellowship was set up in honour of former ClimateWorks
staff member, Common Cause Australia co-founder and Climate Reality Project
organiser Adam Majcher, who passed away suddenly in 2017.

The fellowship provides the opportunity for a young person to participate in the three-
day Climate Reality Project training program with Al Gore, as well as receive
communications training and mentorship by Common Cause Australia. It also includes
a five-week paid placement working with the three climate organisations based in
Melbourne.

ClimateWorks Australia CEO, Anna Skarbek said the fellowship provided an opportunity
to honour Adam Majcher’s work to advance climate change solutions while developing
a young person’s own unique pathway towards creating change.

“Melissa Yoon is a worthy recipient of this fellowship demonstrating a passion and
strong commitment to working with different organisations to find locally-based
solutions to climate change,” she said.

Ms Yoon worked as a volunteer with the Australian Youth Climate Coalition coordinating
a climate education program for secondary school students. She was also an intern at
Moreland Energy Foundation which ran projects involving the installation of solar
panels for apartment buildings and those renting.

Ms Yoon, who is currently undertaking a Master of Environment at the University of
Melbourne, was thrilled to receive the fellowship.

“I’ve noticed that sometimes people feel as though climate change is too
overwhelming to resolve. I would want to use the learnings from this program to keep
educating others and telling stories about the solutions in order to change and
enhance their ability to implement meaningful climate solutions,” she said.
