Sydney is a wonderful city, but it is not wonderful for everyone, everywhere, all the time. For some, even the very basic elements of a quality life - education, income, health, a good place to live, a sense of belonging, safety - are out of reach.
Most lives in Sydney are touched by disadvantage in some way but a truly healthy city is one where the ability to live well is widespread. In a healthy city, members of the community work together to spread the common good, whether by giving their time or resources or by seeking to influence decision makers by advocating on behalf of others less fortunate. A truly healthy city brings benefits to everyone in it, not least because the path to disadvantage can be mercilessly short.
To create a city in which everyone has the opportunity for a good life today and tomorrow we first need a clear sense of Sydney's most pressing social issues. Here we identify Six Pointers to a Truly Healthy City - and - and summarise the issues confronting all Sydneysiders as we work to create opportunities for a good life for all.
