Common Cause Blog

Friday, July 10 2009

On Monday night, 6th July, 100 leaders from the Sydney community gathered at Perpetual Ltd for the launch of the Common Cause report. The launch event featured leading thinkers such as Hugh Mackay, Professor Peter Shergold (Macquarie Group Foundation Professor, the Centre for Social Impact) and Professor Stepan Kerkyasharian (CEO of the NSW Community Relations Commission).

The report, undertaken by the Centre for Social Impact, is the initial step in a cross-sector initiative led by United Way Sydney that are focused on addressing social disadvantage. The website CommonCause.com.au highlights the main findings from the Common Cause report and gives case studies of Sydney residents that are dealing with the common causes of social disadvantage in Sydney, including learning, earning, housing, being healthy, belonging, being safe and Indigenous issues.

United Way Sydney now wants to start a conversation about these complex issues to see what Sydneysiders think is the best way to tackle them. Please feel free to comment on any of our blog posts or complete the survey to help us find practical and effective solutions to the complex social issues that are facing Sydney today.”
