Conversations workshop

Our Conversations workshop will give you the tools to have more productive conversations – no matter the topic – by building connection.

In these polarised times, there’s more need than ever to reach across divides and have productive conversations about the things that matter most. The workshop is designed to build your conversational skills and confidence, helping you to connect, find common ground and spark change.

What you’ll learn

In the workshop we explore:

  • What makes for a good conversation, and what can make conversations challenging

  • Preparing for conversations and maintaining psychological safety

  • How to build connection and find common ground

  • Holding your own views while listening openly and suspending judgement

  • Debriefing and learning from conversations.

Like any skill, good conversation gets easier with practice. In each session you’ll have opportunities to practise having conversations, with feedback and advice. There’s also ample time between the second and third sessions for you to practise and reflect, then ask questions (and share epiphanies!) in the final session.

We keep the group size small, welcoming 6 to 15 participants per workshop, so you can get to know each other, give and receive feedback, and get your questions answered.

Who should attend

Everyone can benefit from developing their conversation skills and experience – we all have conversations!

The workshop is especially suited to community organisers, communicators and community engagers.

Prior knowledge of Common Cause Fundamentals is beneficial but not required.

We offer free ‘pay the rent’ tickets for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and scholarships for participants with limited budgets. To apply for a scholarship, get in touch and let us know your reasons for applying.

NOTE: Our courses are designed to support organisations and advocates working toward social equity, environmental justice and community wellbeing. We take seriously our responsibility to provide a safe space for all participants, and reserve the right to politely decline offering places in our workshops to certain organisations. If you're unsure if your organisation is suitable for the training, please get in touch.
