NAILED IT: LETTER TO THE PRESIDENT OF GHANA
Ngare Kariuki
The issue: LGBTQA+ rights
This example comes from: Ngare Kariuki, a campaigner from Kenya
Strategic context: The anti-LGBTQA+ bill in Ghana, formerly the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, is a pending law in Ghana that would introduce wide-ranging restrictions on LGBTQA+ rights.
The values it’s priming are: True Friendship, A Spiritual Life
What we love about it: This is one of the best examples we have ever seen of intrinsic values political advocacy. Here’s what we especially loved about it:
- it’s personal, even when it’s political
- it creates an encompassing ‘we’ that includes the advocate, the impacted and the decision maker.
- it keeps coming back to shared common ground
- it names clearly who is responsible for the solution
- it draws on past declarations of the decision maker to show how the solution is identity and values aligned
- it maintains positivity and hope throughout.
