NAILED IT! MOTHIN ALI’S STORY

The issue:‍ ‍Racism, worker solidarity

This example comes from: The Green Party of England and Wales

Strategic context: Mothin Ali, the Co-Deputy Leader of the Green Party, draws on his own personal story to present the party’s vision for a more united society, and call on audiences to join.

The values it’s priming are: Social Justice, True Friendship, Mature Love

What we love about it: This video is a great example of the Race Class Narrative in action. It explicitly names both race and class with Moshin’s vision of a better time when workers of different nationalities stood together to get better conditions for all. He provides a clear historical villain - the Thatcher government - as well as hope for the future in the form of a call to see common experiences, not racial differences, and to work together to improve the experience of living and working in modern Britain. The old Union banner with workers of different races lifting chains together is a perfect visual metaphor for a time that many older, perhaps more conservative, voters in the working-class North of England would remember and relate to.
